What to put on a nurse stamp

A nurse stamp is small, so every line has to earn its place. Copy your details from your registration card or license.

Title and credentials

The protected title you hold, such as Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife, plus one degree at most.

Example: RN, RM, BSc Nursing

Registration or license number

Issued by a nursing council or board: an NMC PIN in the UK, a State Nursing Council number in India, a state board license in the US, a PRC license in the Philippines or an NMCN license in Nigeria.

Helps colleagues find you about an entry later. Leave it off if you rotate between units.

Size, shape and ink for a nurse stamp

Nurse stamps live in a pocket and land in narrow chart margins. For the basics of clinical layouts, read how to design a medical seal.

Shape

A slim rectangle suits almost every nursing use. A round stamp is better kept for a clinic or agency logo.

Size

Pocket name stamps are commonly about 38 × 14 mm or 47 × 18 mm, enough for three lines. Vaccination and visit stamps need around 50 × 25 mm for write-in blanks.

Ink color

Follow your employer’s documentation policy, which may specify black. Independent nurses can use blue to show an original.

Font

A plain sans-serif at the largest size that fits. The registration number matters more than the ward name, so give it the space.

Bilingual layout

Nurses in the Gulf can stack Arabic and English versions of the name; the editor handles right-to-left text.

Where nurses use the stamp

The stamp goes wherever your name has to be read quickly.

Charts and medication records

Where your hospital allows it, stamp next to your signature on paper notes. Our article on clinic stamp setup for charts suggests wording that stays administrative.

Vaccination clinics

School, workplace and travel clinics stamp cards and certificates in quick succession.

Home care

Visit logs and care plans kept at the patient’s home show who came and when.

How to make your nurse stamp

  1. Step 1

    Start small

Choose a template above or a blank rectangle, and set the size of your pocket stamp.

  2. Step 2

    Add your details

Type your name, title and registration number as they appear on your license.

  3. Step 3

    Proof it

Zoom in and check every digit; a wrong number on a stamp repeats on every entry.

Frequently asked questions

What should a nurse stamp include?

Your name, title such as RN or RM, registration or license number and, if useful, your ward or agency. Keep it to three or four lines.

Can I use a stamp instead of signing?

No. The stamp prints your name clearly, but a record entry still needs your signature or your login in an electronic system.

What size is a pocket nurse stamp?

Common pocket self-inking stamps are around 38 × 14 mm. Set that size in the editor so text stays legible when produced.

I already have a stamp. Can I make a digital version?

Yes. Make a clean impression, snap it with your phone and extract a stamp from a photo using our tool. You can also retype it from scratch in the editor.

How much does a nurse stamp cost?

Designing is free. A PNG export is $2.50; adding SVG and EPS makes it $2.90, and all six formats cost $3.50. Agencies making stamps for a team may prefer $15.90 a month, $119 a year or $299 lifetime.

How do I order the physical stamp?

Send the SVG, EPS or PDF to a local stamp maker and ask for a pocket self-inking model in your chosen size.

Can a student nurse have a stamp?

Only if your school and placement allow it. Use "Student Nurse" with your university name, never a registered title or number you do not hold yet.

What about doctors and physiotherapists on my team?

Each clinician needs their own details. Doctors have a dedicated doctor stamp maker. Physios will find session-card ideas on the physiotherapist stamp maker page.
